The Programme

The structure of the programmes for both consultations will be similar and include the following elements:

Keynotes

The keynotes will offer distinctive perspectives on the main theme of the conference and thus offer an orienting framework and a starting point for discussion among the participants.

The twinning concept will be applied and inputs from two different contexts and / or disciplines will offer the plural approach which is needed as a basis for ensuing discussions among the participants who are considered to be experts in their fields: academics, practitioners, church rep-resentatives, leadership.

Here you will find the keynotes speakers for São Leopoldo and for Halle

Workshops on thematic tracks

The workshops are intended to offer participants the opportunity to take stock of concrete examples on how reformation traditions engage with key societal and educational areas, and, in reverse, how diverse societal and educational situations impinge upon them. This double perspective will allow paying attention to the ambivalences attached to reformation churches’ societal engagement in past and present, and to develop from here constructive-critical views on the shape of churches’ contemporary social-ethical and educational mandate.

Impulses offered from within diverse cultural and confessional contexts will serve as openings for guided conversations among the workshop participants, deepening selected thematic threads presented in the keynote lectures.

Among these themed tracks the churches’ of the reformation traditions role in contributing to the development of civil societies, their continued struggle to work on their ambiguous role in political and societal conflicts, and to advocate for peoples’, creation’s and religious rights, will play a pivotal role.

Another central dimension to be unfolded in the workshop discussions will be to explore how successful the churches have been in translating the liberating message of the gospel into a wider public debate. And conversely, in which manner social and political developments have impacted the churches self-understanding, discourse and practice in an era of growing pluralisation.

The description of the workshops in São Leopoldo and those in Halle you will find on documents and more .

Paper sharing sessions

The two paper sharing sessions are designed as occasions to present scholarly research, case studies, theological or biblical reflections related to either the thread Reformation-Transformation (see first keynote session) or the thread Reformation-Education (see second keynote session) or crosscutting themes.

These sessions should underline the academic and research aspect of the Twin Consultation. They will also allow the reflection on and presentation of best practice cases and participants of the consultations may be invited to contribute as well.

Taking stock session and Harvesting session

The taking stock session and the harvesting session will collect the results of the workshops in the light of the questions which have been formulated in the project outline and in reaction to the frameworks set by the keynote sessions. In addition the outlines for the workshop discussion will be used as guidelines to identify the insights and results to be harvested from the discussion.

Worships and Devotions

Celebrating services and devotions is an integral and continuous part of both consultations.

Exposure Programme and Presentations

In each consultation visits to active local projects, involved in issues that are related to the main themes of the conferences, will be organised. Further project presentations will be on display throughout the events.
